Surely he is the honest, the respected and righteous, prominent in the
Torah and in piety who studied day and night without letting go,
his only aim, wish and work was to study the Torah and to engage in
charitable work, performed wedding ceremonies [or collected
dowries for poor brides] and was hospitable,
his saintly honorable name was recognized and praised by the gates,
the scholar our teacher and rabbi Rabbi
Effraim son of the prominent Rabbi our teacher and rabbi
Elhanan HaLevi May the memory of the righteous be of a blessing
from ? his soul rose to the heavens on the Holy Sabbath ? Elul in the year 5615
[Aug/Sep1855] by the abbreviated era
May his soul be bound in the bond of everlasting life
